Girl Boss Spotlight: Mary Kay
This post is brought to you by Mary Kay and the InfluenceHer Collective.
As a kid, I always wanted to grow up and be more mature. One of the distinct memories I have about this aspiration was to begin wearing makeup and dressing like a “big kid.” Once I got to middle school, my mom told me that I could begin wearing makeup, as long as I learned how to properly, so I didn’t look like a fool. Too bad this didn’t stop me from matching blue eyeshadow to my blue shirts circa 7th grade.
I was so excited to grow up that this memory has stuck with me forever. My first experience with makeup was when I was just learning, and my mom bought me a lip gloss from our Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant at church. I’ll never forget that moment being a milestone in my adolescence, and Mary Kay will forever hold a special place in my heart for being the brand that brought me into adulthood.
Flash forward to a few months ago, and I found out Mary Kay would be a part of Her Conference 2019, and the nostalgia rolled in and excitement grew. Her Conference is the “biggest, boldest gathering of college women globally,” and this year they were coming to both NYC and LA. I smashed that purchase button as soon as tickets went on sale and eagerly awaited the announcements of speakers and sponsors.
Having a major cosmetic brand like Mary Kay on board the team was such an amazing experience. Mary Kay has been giving entrepreneurial women career opportunities for over 55 years, and as strong women in business, we love to support a good hustle.
At the conference, Mary Kay surprised and delighted us with the most beautiful activation. Adorned in roses, the station began with letting attendees choose a customized Mary Kay Perfect Palette™ with Chromafusion™ Collection products, including Chromafusion™ Eye Shadow, Blush, Highlighter, and Contour. With three beautiful eye look options, it was hard to choose, but I ended up going with the Violet Smoke palette because I fell in love with the purple hues. My favorite part is that all the products in the palette are magnetic and you can replace them when they run out or swap them out for a new shade. The possibilities are endless.
Mary Kay had a calligrapher on-site who was customizing the outside of our palettes with our names, which was such a cute and personal touch that I fell in love with.
After getting our palettes, we were welcomed to head over to the beauty touch up station, where professional makeup artists were on site to help keep our looks fresh and give us amazing tips. It felt so amazing to be pampered using these new products.
Post-makeover, we headed over to the beautiful photo booth and showed off our new looks while posing for the camera. The entire activation was beautiful and interactive, and really gave attendees an amazing look at a brand that revolutionized women supporting their dreams.
Like I said earlier, Mary Kay has been around for generations, and I think it is such a powerful brand for both beauty lovers and young entrepreneurs to fall in love with. The company continues to keep it fresh, fun, and above all else, supports women all along the way.
If you’re interested in customizing your own palette with the Chromafusion™ Collection, you can go to marykay.com or connect with your local Independent Beauty Consultant.
I had an amazing time at Her Conference in LA this weekend, and I can’t wait to share more about my experience.
